VERTICAL WAVES PROJECT
VERTICAL DANCE PROJECT
Architecture-Nature-Society
Where sky and earth meet.
Vertical Waves Project was born in 2010 from the collaboration between Marianna Andrigo - choreographer and vertical dance performer since 2002 - and Aldo Aliprandi - artist and art installer: the project is dedicated to the creation of performances along vertical surfaces that build up the scene. It grows over the years thanks to numerous collaborators and consolidates the artistic team with Valentina Milan - performer and architect - Silvia Zotto and Michela Lorenzano - performer.
The architectural space - the tower, the square, the facade, the wall - condition the development of the creation, determining the uniqueness of the action in relation to the place inhabited. Using the materials required for working at heights such as ropes, descenders, carabiners, the dancers experience a perceived absence of gravity using the language of dance.
The performers have received specific certified training for working at heights and the company offers from the design of rigging points to the creation of vertical setups, lighting and audio techniques.
Dance and acrobatics mix in the choreographic writing, offering rhythms and atmospheres that best adapt to the specificity of the event. Starting from the place, each work is transformed to dialogue with it: the space is interpreted and inhabited, making the artistic action always unique.
Since 2019 the company has broadened its horizons experimenting with new spaces and aerial conditions: thanks to a self-supporting structure made up of modular trusses, the company has created new productions that develop the work of vertical dance with greater proximity towards the audience and promiscuity with dance on the ground.
The interpretation of different scenic spaces and contexts has opened up collaborations with musicians for live performances, interactions with video projections, tyrolienne setups, usage of props and particular clothes: collaborations and dialogue with the territory are part of the creative processes.
